The holiday season is upon us, and with it comes a flurry of parties, family get-togethers, and fun events that beg for that special touch. But why break out the same old decorations you’ve been using for years? Liven up your Christmas events with a fresh new look by checking out this year’s holiday trends!

Glitter is in for 2012, as it has been for several years now. Bright and playful, the sparkle of glitter-spangled ornaments and decorations appeals especially to the up and coming generation of young adults who are looking for a way to make a bold statement in their celebrations. Along similar lines, the classic shine of metallics like gold, silver, copper, and bronze add an elegant touch to any decor. Tone it down to a simple but refined white and silver for an icy winter wonderland look that evokes the feel of a traditional white Christmas.

Vintage continues to be all the rage, and offers many wonderful options for creating a nostalgic holiday spirit. Victorian themed items have a classic beauty, and it is becoming increasingly popular to buy well-crated items that are made from such natural materials as wood, cloth, glass, and ceramic rather than the cheaper, modern plastics and acrylic.

Similarly, creating a woodland theme with pinecones, twigs, fir tree boughs, holly, and berries is a wonderful natural alternative to many of the more gaudy decorating options. Such a theme is both festive and restful, even cozy. It reminds one of a forest after the first snowfall, the utter quiet and stillness of a winter afternoon.
Or try out a fun and whimsical theme inspired by all the delicious candies and treats that accompany this wonderful time of year. Christmas cookies, gingerbread houses, candy canes… They’re all reminiscent of happy childhood memories, special time with the family, and the joys of the season.

However you choose to celebrate the holidays in 2012, don’t forget to take a moment to soak in the wonder, laughter, and fun around you.
