Cute, sweet Babydoll Sheep are just one of the many animals you can see at the Petting Farm at Mountain Valley View Farm! Our petting farm is affordable family fun for all ages, and is open year-round for your enjoyment. Come out to our family farm and enjoy some homemade apple cider or delicious hot chocolate while you meet the over 80 species of animal at our petting farm, including many rare, exotic, and endangered breeds! Yes, we’re still open even though it’s December!

The Southdown breed of sheep originated in the South Down hills of Sussex County, England. The English farms kept these sheep for their flavorful meat and fine fleece. In the early 1800s the South Downs were imported to the United States, where they were bred with larger sheep to produce a commercial breed used for its meat. The Babydoll is smaller than the commercial Southdown breed and can trace its bloodline back to the traditional British Southdown.

The small size of the Babydoll Southdown makes them perfect for hobby farms, mini farms or rural homes with smaller acreage, but they manage just fine on large farms too. Babydoll Southdown sheep are known for their docile dispositions. They are often kept as pets, but they are also used as grass mowers and weed eaters in vineyards and orchards. They are small in stature and easy to handle. They are also prized for their wool.
